Insurance & Billing

At Eastside Counseling Center, we want to make accessing care as simple as possible. We offer direct billing with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Premera, Regence, Cigna, and Kaiser Permanente of Washington.

If your plan is out-of-network, we can provide a detailed superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Because coverage can vary, we recommend reaching out to your insurance provider to confirm your mental health benefits before your first appointment.

Please note: We do not accept Apple Health, Medicaid, or Medicare.

If your plan is out-of-network, we can provide a superbill for you to submit directly to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

We recommend calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and asking questions such as:

  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year are covered?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

  • Is Eastside Counseling Center in-network for my plan?

Common Questions About Therapy

How can therapy help me?

Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges without judgment. A therapist can help you gain new perspectives, develop coping skills, break unhelpful patterns, and create a plan for moving toward the life you want. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, grief, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can be a place for healing, clarity, and personal growth.

Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.

Many people are capable of handling life’s challenges on their own—until something feels overwhelming or persistent. Therapy isn’t about whether you’re “strong enough” to manage life; it’s about having a partner who can help you process, problem-solve, and find new tools to improve your well-being. Even high-functioning, resilient people benefit from therapy when they want additional support, fresh insight, or a safe place to talk things through.

Why do people go to therapy and how do I know if it is right for me?

People seek therapy for many reasons—managing stress, improving relationships, processing grief, working through trauma, setting healthy boundaries, or navigating major life transitions. You might consider therapy if you’re feeling stuck, noticing patterns you want to change, or finding that stress, sadness, or worry is affecting your daily life. If you’re wondering whether therapy could help, that’s often a sign it’s worth exploring.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist. In your first session, you’ll discuss what brings you in, your history, and your goals. From there, your therapist will help you explore challenges, identify strengths, and develop strategies for change. Sessions are typically conversational, focused on your needs, and paced at a level that feels safe and manageable for you. The process can include exploring thoughts and feelings, learning new coping skills, and setting realistic goals for personal growth.

What about medication vs. psychotherapy?

Medication and therapy can be used separately or together. For some people, therapy alone is enough to bring meaningful change. Others may benefit from a combination of therapy and medication—especially for conditions like depression or anxiety. If you think medication might be helpful, we can refer you to a qualified medical provider who can discuss your options. Our focus is on helping you find the approach that best supports your overall well-being.

Do you take insurance, and how does that work?

Yes, we are in-network with most major insurance providers. Before starting therapy, we recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm your mental health benefits and learn about any copays, deductibles, or session limits. Our support staff will also verify your benefits and handle billing directly with your insurance company, so you can focus on your sessions rather than the paperwork.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a vital part of therapy, and we take it very seriously. Information shared in your sessions will not be disclosed without your written consent.

However, state law and professional ethics require clinicians to break confidentiality in specific situations, including:

  • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, or elders, reported to the appropriate authorities based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

  • If the clinician believes the client is in serious danger of harming themselves or has threatened to harm another person.

Outside of these rare exceptions, what you share in therapy stays between you and your therapist.
